Letter to Greenies,
On 14 August 2020 the NSW Chief Health Officer in a letter to community sport advised that effective 19 August 2020 that any regional sporting competitions that involved the mixing of participants from different regions of Sydney and rural NSW should cease for a period of at least six weeks.
Even though our Greenies tournament is scheduled for outside of that initial six weeks, the Office of Sport further reported that a consideration should be given to postponing regional events scheduled for the long weekend in the event that there was an extension or revision.
We are ready to go and have prepared a COVID Safety plan to proceed, but with the CHO’s letter lingering in our minds we believe that there will not be sufficient teams to hold the high quality tournament you all expect from Greenies in 2020 and therefore we have made the sad but correct decisions to close the book on Greenies VIII.
We know you have had disruptions to school, winter sports and family lives and that a return to baseball will be good for the body and soul, we are not medical professionals and so will take the advice of our state leaders and do our bit in a tough year to follow the guidelines.
Guys, baseball is one of those great sports that you can play for a long time. Greenies has been on the baseball calendar in NSW for 7 years and we look forward to running this competitive, fun tournament again for you in 2021. Until then, keep fit, keep loving baseball, keep up with your studies, love your friends and family and know that you will be back on the diamonds again soon.
We look forward to seeing you at Eagles and Warriors later in the year.
Matt & Kerri
